Hokkaido winter wonderland

Japan in the winter is simply beautiful and this epic tour combines the best of the local wildlife plus the incredible culture that is so central to Japanese life.

We will visit the best places for wildlife on the iconic wildlife island of Hokkaido. That means the beautiful Japanese Cranes, the atmospheric "steaming" lakes for Whooper Swans and the incredible ice floe sunrise cruises to see the stunning Stellar Sea Eagles. Add to that the best Red Fox site on the island, Fishing Owls plus the scenery, the culture and the food and you have a great fun trip! But that’s not all. on the mainland we will have a couple of days visiting the world famous snow monkeys in their geothermal pools.

So in a nutshell we are going to run an intensive, yet fun wildlife tour visiting the top spots on the northern island of Hokkaido plus the snow monkeys of Nagano, in stunning winter scenery, and in partnership with award winning Finnish photographer Jari Peltomaki. He is a great friend, brilliant professional wildlife photographer and an expert on the wildlife of Japan. So although I have been twice to Hokkaido to lead photographic tours and make a TV show, Jari has recent and more extensive knowledge - that is why we are missing out some places that others go to - no fillers. This means you will have two professional photographers leading this trip, which is a major point of difference against any competitive trip out there.
