This very special two-centre safari brings together two completely different African experiences, starting in Amboseli, Kenya, one of the greatest places on earth to photograph elephants. Dominating everything is the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, rising above the plains and providing one of the most iconic wildlife backdrops anywhere in Africa. At this time of year we have a real chance of clear views of the mountain, and our dream will be to put Amboseli's elephants – perhaps even one of its legendary super tuskers – beneath that snow-capped summit for those classic images we all want. We will spend our time working with these magnificent animals, using our specially arranged off-road permits to give us the flexibility photographers need to find the best angles and light. And Amboseli isn't just about elephants: the life-filled marshes are superb for birds and provide us with a constant stream of photographic opportunities in one of Africa's most spectacular landscapes.

From Kenya we cross into Tanzania and Lion Rock Camp, a place that really is something special. Here lions dominate, and the local prides have a wonderful habit of climbing onto the huge granite kopjes, where they sit looking every inch the kings and queens of Africa. Watching a magnificent male lion surveying his territory from the rocks, or an entire family relaxing and playing together on a kopje, is an incredible experience – and photographically it can be breathtaking, particularly in beautiful early or late light. At this time of the year the lions are on the rocks for the maximum amount of time as the grass is longer and thunderstorms can yield amazing backdrops for atmospheric silhouettes. On our recce we photographed lions here for seven straight days, yet the area offers much more, with excellent leopard territories and the opportunity to search for the rare black rhino too.

Throughout the safari we will have exclusive vehicles, giving us the space and freedom to work properly with every photographic opportunity rather than fighting for elbow room. Andy Rouse and Jamie Peters will be with you throughout, helping with everything from camera settings and composition to anticipating behaviour and getting into the right position before the action happens. We've chosen lovely camps with real atmosphere and that wonderful old-fashioned safari feeling, in areas where we can escape the usual crowds and simply enjoy being in Africa. And, as always with our safaris, your trip is fully protected by my TTA bonding, giving you complete peace of mind from the moment you book.
